Daylight Savings

Spring forward!

Daylight savings time. The dreaded time adjustment that no parent is excited for!
Daylight savings happens during 2 different times during the year
  • Fall
  • Spring

Spring time is the time when we start to get to have more daylight into the evenings! However, the also means during Daylight Savings, we will need to move our clocks forward or backwards!

Fall—–BACK

Spring—-FORWARD

So, on the first day of Daylight Savings in the Fall, our clocks will go from 7pm to 6pm, and in the Spring they go from 7pm to 8pm but our bodies will still think it is 7 pm!

How do we adjust our child’s internal clock to help make this adjustment?

There are two methods:

  1. Wing it! (If you know me at all, you know I don’t “wing” anything haha)!
  2. Adjust their bedtime schedules a tiny bit every night

How to adjust your child’s schedule the week before DLS for FALL:

  • Move your child’s bedtime by 10-15 mins later every single night!
    • This will get them used to going to bed a tiny bit later so when the first night of DLS hits, they will already be on schedule!
  • You will also be moving their nap a little later every day as well, sticking to your normal wake windows as much as you can.
How to adjust your child’s schedule the week before DLS for SPRING:
  • Move your child’s bedtime by 10-15 mins earlier every single night!
    1. This will get them used to going to bed a tiny bit earlier so when that first night of DLS hits, they will already be on that schedule!
  • You will also be moving their naps earlier every day as well, sticking to those wake windows
Here is an example of what your adjusted schedule the week before Daylight Savings in the SPRING would look like:
